Guy Pringle and his new wife, Harriet, are members of the English community in Bucharest, Rumania on the eve of World War II. The film catalogs and chronicles, after the war begins, the characters [diplomats, literary types, spies, penniless royalty, gays, lesbians] that cross and re-cross their path as they flee before the advancing Germany armies to Athens and then to Cairo.

更多评论战争背后的英国人表面平静的进行抗争，来到曾经占领的土地，生活也依然英国化，战争年代的度假与相聚，仿佛轻易便可以忘记担忧，可即便是这样的生活，也同样没有办法逃离战争带来的苦难，导演细微的表现方式，让我渐次感受到生痛与震撼，我想所有真正的反思都应是拒绝，因为我们生而不为承受这种苦难
最后一集Guy抱着Harris哭得好惨，但我笑得好开心哈哈哈。他们以及他们身边一群真的可爱的人，缺点不是没有，但每一个人都闪闪发光，除了喜欢，没有别的了。
